About the Cms Maxima 5-Axis CNC Glass Machining Centre
The CMS Maxima is a heavy-duty 5-axis horizontal CNC machining centre developed for demanding flat and curved glass processing.
It can process glass sheets of all thicknesses, including laminated, bullet-resistant, military, aerospace and other specialist glass.
The machine performs edge grinding, polishing, arrissing, drilling, milling, contouring, diamond-disc cutting, engraving, lettering and variable-angle bevelling.
Its fully interpolated five-axis head allows the tool to approach the glass from multiple angles, enabling complex machining without relying on additional aggregate heads for every operation.
The wide movement of the B and C rotary axes supports variable-angle bevelling from 0 to 90 degrees, together with dynamic adjustment of the bevel depth.
The Maxima can also be equipped with a diamond cutting disc for straight and inclined cuts. This is particularly useful for removing excess material from laminated glass and producing complex geometric shapes before edge finishing.
The machine is available in two principal configurations:
- CMS Maxima MB
- CMS Maxima Open Frame
The Maxima MB is the monoblock version and provides an integrated, rigid structure for standard and specialist glass machining.
The Maxima Open Frame uses separate supports and offers greater flexibility in working dimensions, worktable arrangement and machine layout.
Depending on the selected configuration, the Maxima can provide Z-axis travel from 460 to 2000 mm. The larger Open Frame versions are particularly suitable for curved aerospace glass and other components requiring deep vertical movement.
The Open Frame version can be configured with two working zones for pendulum production. While the machine operates in one area, the operator can load or unload the second area in complete safety.
This arrangement can remove non-productive loading and unloading time. Where required, the central protective partition can be removed to create one large working area for glass components exceeding 10 metres.
For curved-glass machining, an incremental touch probe measures the actual glass surface and compares it with the theoretical CAD model. The machine then corrects the machining path automatically to compensate for differences between the drawing and the real component.
This helps maintain consistent edge dimensions and surface quality across curved glass.
The No Template System supports chamfering of thin glass without requiring a separate physical template. A support integrated with the machining head stabilises the glass during chamfering to produce a consistent result.
Tool storage is highly configurable. Magazines can be installed at the rear, along the sides or beneath the crossbeam.
Depending on the selected model, the Maxima can provide from 13 to 180 tool-change positions, plus a dedicated blade holder for a cutting disc up to 500 mm in diameter.
The machine can be supplied with a 13.5 kW electrospindle operating at up to 15,000 rpm or a 30 kW electrospindle operating at up to 12,000 rpm.
Optional equipment includes automatic tool measurement, laser suction-cup positioning, laser template acquisition, pneumatic loading bars, undercut drilling, cerium-oxide polishing and automatic tool-cone cleaning.
EasyGlass CAD/CAM software manages component drawing, CNC programming, tool selection, suction-cup positioning, machining simulation, polishing pressure, processing times and production costs.
The optional Smart Production Manager uses barcode scanning to load the correct machining program automatically, reducing programming delays and supporting organised repeat production.
CMS Active provides a touchscreen-optimised machine interface with user management, shift monitoring and tool-life control.
CMS Connect provides connected-machine monitoring, production analysis, alarm history and maintenance support through an IoT platform.
