About the Cms Proline 3-Axis and 5-Axis Waterjet Cutting System

The CMS Proline is an advanced hydro-abrasive waterjet cutting system developed for manufacturers requiring high precision, repeatability and production flexibility.

The same Proline platform can be configured for processing glass, natural stone, marble, granite, quartz, engineered stone, ceramic, sintered materials and other specialist products.

Its enclosed monoblock structure integrates the principal machine systems into one compact platform. Depending on the selected configuration, the high-pressure intensifier and abrasive-management equipment can also be incorporated within the machine structure, reducing installation space and simplifying commissioning.

The machine is available with three-axis or five-axis cutting technology. A three-axis head provides accurate vertical cutting, while the optional JD5ax head adds inclined cutting, bevels, chamfers, taper compensation and three-dimensional machining.

Proline uses a robust gantry structure with hardened and ground racks and helical pinions. These components provide accurate movement, strong dynamic performance and reliable positioning over repeated production cycles.

CMS publishes a positioning accuracy of ±0.035 mm and repeatability of ±0.025 mm for the Proline platform. Final achievable results depend on the material, cutting parameters, head, pump and machine configuration.

The linear guides and rack systems are protected by the CMS Powder-Free system. This labyrinth-style protective arrangement limits the entry of water, abrasive garnet and cutting debris into the motion components.

Front and rear pneumatically operated covers help contain water and abrasive material within the cutting area. This creates a cleaner working environment and reduces the spread of spray around the machine.

The Proline can be configured with the optional JD5ax five-axis cutting head. This head combines an infinitely rotating C axis with a B axis capable of tilting up to approximately ±62 degrees.

The JD5ax head enables the production of angled cuts, bevels, chamfers, countersinks and three-dimensional profiles. Automatic taper compensation helps reduce the natural conicity associated with abrasive-waterjet cutting.

The cutting head also incorporates collision detection, automatic probing and monitoring of critical cutting components. Direct-drive servomotors provide accurate head movement with fewer mechanical components exposed to fatigue.

Proline is designed to manage one or two high-pressure intensifiers, depending on production requirements. This allows the system to support demanding materials, thicker workpieces, multiple cutting heads or higher cutting speeds.

The machine can be paired with the CMS JetPower Evo hydraulic intensifier or the CMS E-Pump hybrid system.

The JetPower Evo uses independently controlled, electronically synchronised parallel pressure multipliers to provide stable output pressure and reduce the pressure fluctuations found in traditional opposed-cylinder intensifiers.

The E-Pump combines electrohydrostatic technology with long-stroke pressure multiplier cylinders. CMS states that it can provide higher efficiency, fewer hydraulic components, reduced oil usage and lower electrical consumption than conventional hydraulic systems.

A pressurised abrasive-feeding system can be integrated into the Proline. The standard high-capacity arrangement uses two 330 kg stages so one tank can be refilled while production continues.

For higher-volume operation, an abrasive-storage system with capacity up to 2000 kg can be supplied, reducing interruptions during long cutting cycles.

The cutting tank can be prepared for the CMS automatic chain dredging system. This continuously removes used abrasive material and reduces the manual work normally required to empty and clean the tank.

An automatic water-level system can raise the water around the workpiece for submerged cutting. This reduces cutting noise and helps contain water and abrasive spray.

The Proline can also be equipped with a surface-washing system. Following cutting, this system removes abrasive garnet from the workpiece and working area before unloading or subsequent handling.

A camera mounted near the cutting head can be used to acquire workpiece origins directly from the operator control. This helps simplify setup and reduces the need for the operator to move repeatedly between the machine and cutting area.

Automatic TCP detection uses laser measurement to check the alignment of the five-axis cutting head relative to its rotational centre. It can compensate for misalignment after a collision and support accurate machining where narrow tolerances are required.

An optional alignment laser projects a reference line onto the work surface to assist with positioning sheets and slabs before cutting.

The Proline is available in working sizes suited to glass, stone and general fabrication. The current published range includes Proline 1730 and Proline 2040 configurations, with the 2040 providing an X-axis stroke of 4250 mm and a Y-axis stroke of 2000 mm.

The 2040 worktable measures approximately 4820 × 2220 mm and supports loads up to 1000 kg/m², making it suitable for full-size glass sheets, stone slabs, quartz, ceramic and heavier specialist materials.

Easyjet DDX CAD/CAM software manages three- and five-axis programming, automatic toolpath generation, nesting, cutting-quality selection, machining simulation and production costing.

The integrated materials database allows the operator to select from five cutting-quality levels. The software then generates the relevant feed speeds, corner parameters and machine program.

Stone & Glass Group supplies the CMS Proline throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland for both glass and stone processing. Glass configurations are also supplied and supported throughout the Benelux.

Support includes application testing, machine selection, factory-layout planning, pump specification, installation, commissioning, operator training, software support, consumables, spare parts and ongoing technical service.
