About the Cms Vertec Mill Vertical Glass Drilling and Milling Machine

The CMS Vertec Mill is a CNC vertical machining centre developed for the precise drilling, countersinking, milling, notching and profiling of flat glass.

The machine can process monolithic, laminated and Low-E glass and is suitable for both rectangular and shaped sheets, provided the workpiece has at least one straight reference edge.

Two coaxial opposed electrospindles machine the glass from both sides. This arrangement allows drilling to be completed accurately while reducing breakout around the hole and supporting a high-quality finish.

Internal and external water cooling supplies coolant directly to the machining area. This improves tool cooling, supports consistent machining quality and helps extend tool life.

The machine is equipped with two opposing pressers that stabilise the sheet during processing. During drilling, the pressers clamp the glass and deliver coolant around the tool.

During milling and profiling, the pressers remain approximately 0.2 mm away from the glass surface. A high-pressure water cushion reduces vibration, cools the tool and helps maintain a consistent chamfer along the workpiece.

Two independent suction-cup carriages transport and position the glass during milling. Each carriage is fitted with three suction cups on separate vacuum channels, providing controlled support and stable movement throughout the machining cycle.

The Vertec Mill can be equipped with two rotating tool magazines, each containing nine positions. Because the magazines travel with the vertical carriage, tool changes take approximately ten seconds regardless of the machining position.

The software can schedule a tool change on one operating unit while the other unit continues machining, helping reduce non-productive time.

The machine uses tools with a ยฝ-inch gas connection in lengths of 75 or 95 mm. Available tooling includes core drills, combined milling cutters, tapered countersinks and grinding wheels for polishing milled edges.

The electrospindles provide 3.7 kW continuous power and up to 4.4 kW intermittent power, operating at speeds up to 12,000 rpm.

An automatic core-drill measurement system checks tool dimensions with centesimal accuracy and updates the machine data to compensate for wear.

Core drills can also be dressed automatically according to a preset frequency. This reduces manual checking and helps ensure tools remain in suitable condition for accurate production.

The glass-positioning stop uses a rack-and-pinion transmission and provides positioning accuracy within approximately 0.3 mm. The glass is referenced without marking or clamping the coated surface, supporting the processing of Low-E glass.

The Vertec Mill is available in several sizes, with maximum workable lengths of 3200, 4500 or 6000 mm and maximum workable heights of 2220, 2600 or 3300 mm.

The machine processes glass from 3 to 30 mm thick and supports drilling tools from 3 to 70 mm in diameter. The minimum workable glass size is 420 ร— 180 mm.

The Vertec Mill can operate as a standalone machine, be installed in line with a CMS Ypsos vertical machining centre or be integrated within a larger automated glass-processing line.

Production-line options include automatic glass loading and unloading, robotic handling, automatic paper spreading and fixed or rotating palletisation systems.

Easyglass CAD/CAM software is used to create and simulate glass-machining programs. It supports drilling, milling, profiling, polishing, engraving, notching and countersinking cycles, together with suction-cup positioning and collision checking.

The optional Smart Production Manager can organise production through barcode control, work lists or manual program selection while recording production and machine data.
