Cms Brembana Milestone S 3-Axis and 5-Axis Waterjet Cutting System

The CMS Brembana Milestone S is a compact, high-performance waterjet cutting system developed specifically for stone fabricators.

It provides an integrated entry into three-axis and five-axis waterjet processing while retaining the construction quality, cutting flexibility and software capability associated with CMS Brembana machinery.

The Milestone S is suitable for natural stone, marble, granite, quartz, engineered stone, ceramic, porcelain and sintered slab materials.

Its monolithic bridge construction combines a fixed cutting table with a moving crossbeam and elevated guideways. This compact layout provides a rigid machining structure while reducing the floor space required compared with larger modular waterjet systems.

All principal machine movements use hardened and ground rack-and-pinion transmission driven by brushless motors.

The axis guideways are housed within the machine structure and protected by the CMS Powder-Free system. This labyrinth-style protective arrangement helps prevent water, abrasive garnet and stone debris from reaching the motion components.

The machine is available in three-axis and five-axis configurations.

The three-axis version provides precise vertical waterjet cutting for worktop components, internal cut-outs, profiles, holes and decorative stone pieces.

The optional five-axis configuration adds inclined cutting, bevels, chamfers, mitres, taper compensation and more complex three-dimensional processing.

The five-axis head uses a tilting B axis and rotating C axis to maintain the correct cutting angle throughout the toolpath.

Automatic taper compensation helps reduce the natural conicity produced during abrasive-waterjet cutting. This supports improved dimensional accuracy and a more consistent finished edge.

CMS lists rapid speeds up to 40 m/min and acceleration up to 2 m/s² for the Milestone S platform.

The 1730 is designed for more compact workshops and smaller slab formats, while the 2040 provides a larger working area suitable for full-size worktops, kitchen islands and large-format ceramic or quartz components.

The Milestone S can be configured with one or two cutting heads, depending on the model and production requirement.

With two heads, identical or repeated components can be processed simultaneously, helping improve productivity on suitable jobs.

The machine offers a Z-axis stroke up to 350 mm with a three-axis head and up to 200 mm with the five-axis configuration.

This provides flexibility for thicker materials, raised fixtures and more complex three-dimensional cutting operations.

An electronic abrasive hopper controls the flow of garnet to the cutting head.

If abrasive flow is interrupted, the control can stop the cutting cycle to reduce the risk of incomplete cuts, damaged components or scrapped material.

The cutting system can be paired with CMS Brembana high-pressure intensifiers including the JetPower Evo and E-Pump.

The JetPower Evo uses parallel, electronically synchronised pressure multipliers to maintain stable high-pressure delivery.

The E-Pump uses an electrohydrostatic system designed to reduce energy consumption, hydraulic oil use and the number of hydraulic components compared with traditional intensifiers.

The machine can be equipped with automatic abrasive dredging to remove spent garnet from the cutting tank.

This reduces manual tank cleaning and helps support regular production in workshops where the machine is used continuously.

An optional automatic water-level system allows submerged cutting. Raising the water around the workpiece reduces operating noise and helps contain spray and abrasive material.

The Milestone S can also be equipped with a pressurised abrasive-feeding system, automatic height probing, a cross laser and work-area cleaning equipment.

Easyjet DDX CAD/CAM software manages the complete waterjet programming process.

The software supports drawing, file import, automatic cutting-path generation, nesting, lead-ins and lead-outs, piercing cycles, three-dimensional simulation and production-time estimation.

Its integrated materials database allows operators to select different cutting-quality levels. The software then applies the relevant cutting speeds, accelerations and corner parameters.

Typical applications include kitchen worktops, vanity tops, sink and hob cut-outs, quartz worktops, ceramic slabs, stone flooring, fireplace components, steps, thresholds, windowsills, decorative panels, inlays and mosaics.
