About the Cms Brembana Sprint 5-Axis Bridge Saw

The CMS Brembana Sprint is a numerically controlled five-axis bridge saw designed for large-format slab processing and high-production stone fabrication.

Its five interpolated axes and tilting head allow the machine to perform straight, shaped, vertical and inclined cutting, together with mitres, three-dimensional profiling and milling operations.

The Sprint can process natural stone, marble, granite, engineered stone, composite stone and ceramic materials. It can also work with thick slabs and selected stone-block applications.

A 4250 mm X-axis stroke provides the working length required for large slabs and extended components. The Y-axis can be configured from 2550 to 7200 mm, allowing the machine layout to be adapted to the customer’s production and factory requirements.

The machine uses a fixed working table and a robust open-frame bridge structure. It is installed on concrete or fabricated support shoulders, providing the stiffness and stability needed for demanding cutting and machining operations.

All principal movements are powered by brushless motors combined with precision reduction systems. Motion is transmitted through hardened and ground guides and ball-bearing systems, helping maintain accurate and repeatable positioning.

The head rotates through the fourth axis and inclines through the fifth axis. This allows the Sprint to produce straight cuts, mitres, inclined cuts, shaped components and complex geometries without repeated manual repositioning.

The machine can use diamond blades from 350 to 825 mm in diameter. With a 625 mm blade, the maximum published working thickness is 200 mm at 90° and 130 mm at 45°.

The Sprint can be configured with a Z-axis travel from 600 to 900 mm, providing additional clearance for thick components and specialist machining.

An optional 13 kW ISO 50 electrospindle operates at up to 8000 rpm. This option transforms the bridge saw into a more complete five-axis machining centre capable of drilling, core drilling, milling, profiling, engraving and additional finishing operations.

An optional vacuum manipulator can automatically lift and reposition cut pieces on the table. The standard published capacity is up to 500 kg, with an optional 1000 kg version available for the Sprint.

Automatic repositioning helps optimise slab cutting, reduce waste, lower manual handling and complete intersecting cuts with less operator intervention.

CMS states that automated piece movement can improve productivity by up to 33%. Actual output will depend on the material, slab layout, workpiece geometry and final machine configuration.

The Sprint can also be supplied in several automated production configurations. These include dual-table pallet-changing systems, belt-table production lines, pendular machining layouts and automatic unloading solutions.

With the dual-table system, one slab can be loaded while another is being machined. This reduces loading and unloading delays and allows production to continue more consistently.

CMS’s indicative comparison shows the standard Formax or Sprint processing approximately 124 m² or 23 slabs in an eight-hour shift. The dual-table version is listed at approximately 211 m² or 39 slabs, while the belt-table version is listed at approximately 243 m² or 45 slabs. CMS notes that these figures vary according to material, thickness, blade and production conditions.

Optional slab photography captures the actual slab surface and allows components to be positioned around defects, colour variation and natural veining.

Smart Saw software supports manual, semi-automatic and automatic cutting, including single, multiple, circular, horizontal and parametric operations.

EasySTONE CAD/CAM provides advanced programming for cutting, drilling, milling, profiling, polishing, engraving and three-dimensional machining. It also allows common 2D and 3D files to be imported and the machining cycle to be simulated before production.

Stone & Glass Group supplies the CMS Brembana Sprint throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, supported by project consultation, factory-layout planning, installation, commissioning, operator training, software support, tooling, spare parts and ongoing technical service.
