About the Cms Brembana Kosmos 5-Axis Monoblock Bridge Saw
The CMS Brembana Kosmos is a next-generation, numerically controlled five-axis monoblock bridge saw developed for flexible stone and ceramic slab processing.
Its compact, self-supporting construction allows the machine to be installed directly onto a suitable industrial floor without requiring dedicated concrete foundations. This reduces installation work and makes future relocation considerably easier than with a conventional open-frame bridge saw.
The Kosmos is designed for workshops processing natural stone, engineered stone, quartz and ceramic slabs for kitchen worktops, vanity tops, flooring, wall panels, thresholds, stairs, windowsills and architectural components.
Its rotary axes are fully interpolated with the linear axes. The machine can therefore carry out true five-axis cutting and machining using either the diamond blade or suitable tooling, depending on its selected configuration.
The cutting head rotates through 360ยฐ and inclines from 0ยฐ to 90ยฐ. This allows the production of straight cuts, angled cuts, mitres and complex geometries without repeatedly repositioning the slab manually.
The Kosmos uses diamond blades from 350 to 625 mm in diameter and can process material up to 200 mm thick with a 625 mm blade. Its 18.5 kW main motor operates at speeds up to 6000 rpm, providing the power and flexibility required for a broad range of slab-cutting applications.
With a machine weight of up to 5100 kg, the Kosmos provides the structural rigidity required to absorb machining stresses and maintain consistent accuracy over time. The machine base is fixed directly to the floor, combining monoblock installation with the stability expected from a production bridge saw.
An optional vacuum manipulator can automatically lift, move and reposition cut pieces across the worktable. This allows the software to optimise the cutting sequence, reduce manual handling and minimise material waste.
CMS states that automatic piece repositioning can improve productivity by up to 33% by reducing manual movements during the slab-cutting cycle. Actual results will depend on slab layout, material, component geometry and machine configuration.
The redesigned manipulator provides a larger suction area and a wider lifting span than the previous generation. Its two-wing arrangement helps distribute the lifting force across the component, allowing thinner materials to be handled with a lower risk of breakage.
An optional 3.7 kW side electrospindle operating at up to 14,000 rpm can be fitted for high-speed drilling, milling, writing, engraving and shallow relief work. Because this spindle carries an additional tool, these operations can be performed without removing the blade or tool fitted to the main head. CMS states that this option can increase productivity when producing kitchen worktops.
The Kosmos can also be equipped with a tilting worktable with a maximum capacity of 1200 kg. The table is operated by two hydraulic cylinders, with inverter-controlled movement for smooth and controlled slab loading. Work surfaces can be supplied in rubber, wood or cutting-mat configurations.
The latest CMS Active operator interface integrates parametric CAD/CAM functions directly into the machine control. Operators can access ready-to-use shape libraries, import DXF files, perform nesting, control the vacuum manipulator and use an optional slab camera from one interface.
Automatic slab photography can capture the actual material surface, allowing components to be nested around visible defects and positioned according to colour, pattern and vein direction.
The Kosmos can be used manually or automatically. Parametric programs and the standard laser projector help operators position cuts and components accurately, while automated nesting and manipulator control reduce operator intervention during production.
Stone & Glass Group supplies the CMS Brembana Kosmos throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, supported by project consultation, factory-layout planning, installation, commissioning, operator training, software support, tooling, spare parts and ongoing technical service.
