About the Cms Brembana Formax 5-Axis Bridge Saw
The CMS Brembana Formax is a numerically controlled five-axis bridge saw designed for flexible and accurate processing of natural stone, engineered stone, ceramic materials and stone blocks.
Its five interpolated axes and tilting cutting head allow the machine to perform straight, shaped, vertical and inclined cuts, together with three-dimensional profiling and milling operations.
This broad processing capability makes the Formax suitable for manufacturers producing kitchen worktops, vanity tops, flooring, wall panels, steps, thresholds, architectural stonework and street furniture.
The machine uses a fixed working table and an open-frame bridge structure that can be installed on concrete or fabricated support shoulders. This rigid mechanical arrangement provides the stability required for demanding machining operations and long-term production use.
All primary movements are driven by brushless motors connected to precision reduction systems. Motion is transmitted through hardened and ground guides with ball-bearing systems, helping provide accurate positioning and controlled movement throughout the working area.
The head rotates through the fourth axis and tilts through the fifth axis, allowing the diamond blade to approach the material from multiple directions. This enables accurate mitres, inclined cuts, compound geometry and complex shaped components to be produced without repeated manual repositioning.
The Formax can be configured with blade diameters from 350 to 725 mm, with an optional maximum diameter of 825 mm. Depending on the selected blade and angle, the machine can process material up to 200 mm thick with the blade at 90ยฐ and up to 130 mm with the blade at 45ยฐ.
An optional ISO 50 electrospindle allows the Formax to use CNC tooling for drilling, milling, routing, profiling and additional finishing operations. With this option, the bridge saw becomes a more versatile five-axis machining centre capable of completing more operations on a single machine.
The optional vacuum manipulator can automatically lift and reposition cut components on the table. This supports optimised slab cutting, reduces manual handling and allows the software to complete cutting sequences with fewer operator interventions.
According to CMS, the vacuum manipulator can improve productivity by up to 33% by automatically moving pieces and reducing the manual movements required during slab optimisation. Actual output will depend on the material, component geometry, machine configuration and production method.
The machine can also be equipped with automatic slab photography. The captured image is used within the software to position components on the actual slab, identify defects, follow vein direction and improve nesting efficiency.
CMS Smart Saw provides manual, semi-automatic and automatic operating modes for single, multiple, circular, horizontal and parametric cutting. Additional functions support tiles, mitred borders, template copying and surface flattening.
EasySTONE CAD/CAM software can be used for more advanced work, including drilling, milling, profiling, polishing, engraving and three-dimensional machining. The software supports the import of common 2D and 3D file formats and provides a simulation of the machining cycle before production begins.
The Formax can be supplied as a standard fixed-table machine or developed into a more automated production system. Available configurations include sawjet versions, dual-table systems, belt tables, automatic loading and unloading, pendular production and integrated slab-handling solutions.
Stone & Glass Group supplies the CMS Brembana Formax throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, supported by project consultation, factory layout planning, installation, commissioning, operator training, tooling, spare parts, servicing and technical support.
