About the Cms Brembana E-Pump Hybrid Waterjet Intensifier
The CMS Brembana E-Pump is a hybrid high-pressure intensifier developed to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption and simplify the hydraulic architecture used in industrial waterjet cutting.
Designed and engineered by CMS, the E-Pump combines the power density of a hydraulic intensifier with the energy efficiency of a direct-drive mechanical system.
At the heart of the machine is an electrohydrostatic unit connected directly to long-stroke pressure multiplier cylinders.
This architecture reduces the number of hydraulic components by up to 95% compared with a conventional hydraulic intensifier, helping simplify the system and reduce the number of components requiring inspection or replacement.
CMS states that the E-Pump can achieve an operating efficiency more than 31% higher than traditional hydraulic intensifiers.
The hybrid double-acting pressure pump uses a brushless servomotor controlled by an inverter. This allows the system to adapt its output to the cutting cycle rather than continuously operating at maximum demand.
During rapid machine movements or periods when the cutting head is closed, the pump can reduce its energy use significantly.
CMS publishes electrical-consumption savings of up to 37%, depending on the cutting cycle, operating pressure and machine configuration.
The primary motor and auxiliary motors are inverter controlled, helping reduce starting-current peaks and improving adaptation to changing operating conditions.
The E-Pump uses approximately 91% less hydraulic oil than a conventional system. Its oil tank capacity is approximately 13 litres, reducing the environmental impact, storage requirements and disposal associated with large-volume hydraulic systems.
Maximum operating pressure is approximately 4130 bar, with a maximum water flow of up to 5 litres per minute at 3700 bar.
The system supports an orifice diameter up to approximately 0.40 mm at 3700 bar, making it suitable for a broad range of glass, stone, quartz, ceramic and specialist-material cutting applications.
The E-Pump incorporates onboard intelligence for monitoring operating parameters and diagnosing hydraulic and high-pressure components.
The control interface is accessible through a 10.4-inch Wi-Fi tablet, allowing operators and maintenance personnel to view system information close to the machine.
The interface supports:
- Remote diagnostics
- Power monitoring and control
- Electronic cutting-pressure control
- Monitoring of the number of cycles completed by each cylinder
- Operating-status information
- Maintenance and fault analysis
An industrial PLC housed within the electrical cabinet manages the intensifier and allows it to interface with CMS cutting tables and suitable third-party machines.
A central seal-leakage collection system gathers leaks from the high-pressure seals in an external manifold.
This makes it easier to identify whether a leak originates from a static or dynamic seal and from which side of the pressure multiplier, without first dismantling the machine covers.
Two green status lights identify the pressure multiplier currently operating, supporting quicker diagnosis during service or inspection.
The inlet-water booster pump is controlled by an inverter. It adapts to the available mains-water pressure and flow as well as the condition of the cutting head.
This reduces unnecessary energy and water-system demand while maintaining the correct inlet supply to the intensifier.
The E-Pump is designed for operation on both 50 Hz and 60 Hz electrical supplies and can be connected to CMS waterjet cutting tables or suitable third-party systems.
Compatible CMS platforms include the Easyline, Smartline, Proline, Aquatec and Brembana Milestone S, subject to the final machine configuration and technical assessment.
The E-Pump is particularly suitable for manufacturers seeking to reduce electricity consumption, hydraulic oil use and routine maintenance without sacrificing the pressure and flow required for industrial abrasive-waterjet cutting.
Stone & Glass Group supplies and supports CMS Brembana E-Pump systems throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland for glass and stone waterjet applications. Glass configurations are also supported throughout the Benelux.
Support includes pump specification, water-quality assessment, integration, installation, commissioning, operator training, maintenance training, high-pressure components, spare parts and ongoing technical service.
