About the Quadrobot Fully automatic six-axis Georgian bar assembly robot

The R&R Quadrobot is a fully automatic robotic system developed for the high-speed and precise assembly of Georgian bar grids into insulating glass spacer frames.

R&R pioneered automated Georgian bar assembly and introduced its first fully automatic Quadrobot around 2000/2001. The technology has subsequently been continuously developed to meet changing IGU production requirements.

The Quadrobot uses six axes and four screw heads to automate Georgian bar assembly. All four sides of the spacer frame can be processed simultaneously, reducing waiting time and optimising production cycle times.

Screw positions are transmitted to the machine online, while a special centring clamp accurately positions the components before fixing. All connections are screwed at a 90-degree angle, creating a stable connection between the Georgian bar grid and spacer frame.

The screw-fixing method is particularly relevant to modern insulating glass production. R&R explains that Georgian bars with installation heights of 8 mm and even 5 mm are increasingly used in triple glazing. Screwing provides greater grid stability than riveted edge connections and avoids problems associated with riveting thermoplastic spacer profiles.

The latest Quadrobot incorporates an improved control system capable of processing a wider variety of Georgian bar models. An integrated preheating system allows low-psi profiles to be processed by locally heating the screw and spacer before fixing.

A major production advantage is that the system requires no set-up time when changing Georgian bars or spacer frames, supporting flexible automated production where different IGU specifications are manufactured in sequence.

For insulating glass manufacturers producing significant volumes of decorative units, the Quadrobot replaces a labour-intensive manual assembly operation with a controlled automated process, improving speed, repeatability and connection stability.
