About the Steinex Plants for Flaking Stratified Stones
Flaking stratified stone is traditionally done by hand across the world, with skilled workers using sledgehammers and wedges to find the right vein, exfoliate the layers and produce regular slabs. It is heavy work, with operators flaking several tonnes of stone a day by hand.
Through its research department, Steinex is the first company to mechanise this process. The Igloo SFD system flakes blocks up to 800 mm high, while the Menhir SFD plant flakes blocks up to 1600 mm high. All handling and flaking, conveyor, manipulator and machine movements are controlled from consoles and joysticks, with no physical effort from the operator.
